WEATHER: First 200km – 49 to 56km/h headwind. Next 200km – 41km/h headwind. Last 224km – 25km/h. Temperatures up to 27 Degrees Celsius.
The race was as expected a very tough affair. HOPE of BREAKFAST CLUB (Marius Behrens, Robert Human and Tiaan Landman) was the first pigeon back and was clocked at 16:41:04 – winning speed 1021mpm. The next pigeon was SONIC of BADENHORST LOFTS at 16:46:14. PURDEY I of Bertus was 3rd and clocked at 17:00:02. Seventy five pigeons were clocked on the day when some predicted that no pigeons will make it back on the day. The excellent loft management and training of Banie Deetlefs and his team contributed to this great result.
1. HOPE of Breakfast Club – Her father is a SON of the COOLS COCK (Cools cock x his own daughter) and the mother is full sister of their Car Winner at DIAZ LOFTS (Stander/Gigi Gaddin bloodline). The COOLS COCK is a cousin of MARIEKE JUNIOR and Bertus and Marius are breeding in partnership with him for the last four years.
3. PURDEY I – daughter of super breeder KROMME (linbred WITPEN WITTENBUIK) and LITTLE PURDEY (linebred granddaughter of famous PURDEY of ALFONS KLAAS). LITTLE PURDEY was bred by Chris Swanepoel of Pretoria. Bertus and Chris exchanged 7 pigeons in 2018 and LITTLE PURDEY was one of the 7 he got from Chris.

2017 – 4th with CHRISTIANNE (daughter of KROMME x 43202 DOGTER GOLDEN EYE) and 11th with POCKET ROCKET (Pocket Power x BONTE MARIEKE, daughter of Kromme). 780km winning speed 1128mpm. Only 14 pigeons on the day.
2018 – 5th with COOL RUNNINGS (COOLS COCK x DICKEY’S HEN). Dickey’s Hen is a daughter of KROMME x 43202 DOGTER GOLDEN EYE. 780km 1230mpm. Only 6 pigeons on the day.
2020 – 3rd with PURDEY I (KROMME X LITTLE PURDEY). 624km winning speed 1021mpm.
