Riaan is from Aliwal North and a newcomer to the sport. He only started racing this year. Despite being a novice he has done very well to date and is currently 8th in the 15-bird Championship points of the NEC Pigeon Union.
Izak Marais of Burgersdorp supplied Riaan with pigeons in 2020 and his racing team consists mainly of Izak's pigeons.
Riaan not only won the union Yearling race from Mahikeng but his winner 21931 was also the fastest of the total release against 1859 pigeons.
